Tampa’s future Super League team is taking shape. Club President Christina Unkel, Head Coach Denise Schilte-Brown, Head of Operations Samantha Ishee, Corporate Controller Emily Vinz, and a dedicated soccer-obsessed staff are ready to launch a new squad in the region. The club was brought to life by three childhood friends with strong business acumen in the community: Darryl Shaw, David Laxer, and Jeff Fox.
“We are sowing early roots in Ybor City by making the community the home of Super League Tampa Bay’s practice field,” wrote team officials in an Instagram post. “With the players training here, we know they will grow to love it too. We continue to build our club and will have some important milestones to share soon, like our new club name and temporary stadium location.”

The potential practice field would be situated between 7th and 8th Avenue along N Nebraska Avenue.
Super League Tampa begins in August 2024
Tampa will be one of 10 to 12 clubs playing in the inaugural USL Super League season when play begins in August 2024. Once it is sanctioned by U.S. Soccer as a Division One league, it will rank on par with other top professional sports leagues and feature players who represent their countries in international competitions such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup and Olympic Games.
“You’ve got 12 professional women’s teams in this country and amazing cities and fans and players who want to be part of this movement of professional women’s sports,” USL Super League president Amanda Vandervort told ESPN. “I think that’s created the opportunity that there is now for the Super League. We’re ready and we’re excited to create that platform for all of those people.”
