Tampa Fish Market makes the “best crabs on the planet,” according to Strictly Dumpling

Strictly Dumpling, a traveling food reviewer with more than 2.5 million followers, recently visited Tampa and sang the praises of the local gem West Fortune Street Fish Market. “West Fortune Street Fish Market in Tampa serves up BUTTER GARLIC blue crabs and it just may be the BEST crabs on this planet,” wrote the reviewer following his visit. The video, which you can watch here, has more than 474,000 views.

West Fortune Fish Market is located at 1926 W Main Street, and the local seafood hub has earned significant acclaim. Popular menu items include fried okra, corn fritters, clam strips, and soft shell crab sandwiches. The reviewer was there for something quite specific. He indulged in jumbo butter garlic blue crab. “When I took that first bite, my soul left my body,” said the reviewer in his video. For him, it was all about the “sweet meat candy” of the jumbo crabs.

If you’re interested in trying this spot yourself, you can order ahead online, or simply visit the shop to see what’s on the menu that day. As Strictly Dumpling said, “The butter garlic intensifies the flavor without overtaking any of the crab meat’s sweetness.”

He also paid a visit to the West Ybor Barterhouse, 1811 N 15th Street, Suite A. Here he tried Blue Crab Chilau with Ybor-style tomato sauce and fresh spaghetti. The reviewer was taken aback by the wonderfully toasted texture and the pervading sweetness of the crab. He gave the iconic dish a 10/10. They also gave high marks to the deviled crab, a true Tampa legend.
