Seminole Heights legend Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe is for sale

The original destination restaurant in Seminole Heights is on the market: Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe at 5119 N. Nebraska Avenue in Tampa has been listed for sale. “This property has served me and the neighborhood very well for the past 15 years but it is time for me to move on to other ventures” said original owner Melissa Deming.

Ella’s American Folk Art Cafe is famous for its live music offerings, excellent brunch, and of course its quintessential art collection lining the walls. It represents the vibrant spirit of Seminole Heights, and in many ways helped create the boom we see in the area today.

Deming named the restaurant after her grandmother and developed the property with her father’s construction company.

Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe is a Seminole Heights legend

Locals know Ella’s as a gathering place for all walks of life, especially during the famous Soul Food Sundays which is a rite of passage in Tampa. Deming’s eclectic artwork covers the walls and a few funky statues adorn the popular patio, all of which compliment the surrounding neighborhood. Deming estimates she has hosted over 2,000 live music shows and has watched the neighborhood, her customers and staff grow up around her.

Deming hopes whoever purchases the property keeps Ella’s going as it is, or debuts a new concept in the same spirit as Ella’s, and the rest of the Seminole Heights neighborhood. Follow Ella’s on Facebook for updates on upcoming concerts and events.
