The Tampa Theatre is a beacon of classic entertainment. The historic structure has served as a home of fine arts, comedy, music and cinema. To this day, the Tampa Theatre continues to nurture a love of the arts in generations young and old as it brings the best performers, actors, directors and film to its stage.
It's a spot we more than adore and we'd be remiss if we didn't spread that love. The Theatre, located at 711 North Franklin Street, has a bounty of events coming up soon. Here is a full schedule:

The Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio LIVE
Listed in Entertainment Weekly’s Top 50 of the “Best High School Movies” ever made, The Karate Kid premiered in 1984 to both critical and commercial acclaim. It made a star out of Ralph Macchio, who will share his experience and behind-the-scenes stories with fans in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see it on the big screen and hear from the Karate Kid himself. Begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are $46.50 plus applicable fees, and a very limited number of meet & greet tickets will also be available for $129 plus fees. Family Favorites Classics Series — Follow That Bird
Big Bird (Caroll Spinney) loves spending his days on Sesame Street with all of his friends. But social worker Miss Finch (Sally Kellerman) feels that Big Bird should live in an environment with birds like himself. When she sends him to live with a family of dodos in Illinois, Big Bird misses his friends back home. Zev Guttman (Academy Award-winner Christopher Plummer) is a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor struggling with memory loss and living out his final years in a retirement home. A week after the death of his beloved wife, Ruth, he receives a mysterious package from his close friend Max (Academy Award-winner Martin Landau) containing a stack of money and reminding him of his terrible secret mission. Both Zev and Max were prisoners in Auschwitz, and the sadistic guard responsible for the death of both their families escaped Germany and has been living in the U.S. ever since under an assumed identity—Zev must track him down and kill him. A young boy, Elliott (Henry Thomas), finds an alien mistakenly left behind on Earth and hides the creature in his home. SONIC SEA is about the impact of industrial and military noise on whales and other marine life. It tells the story of Ken Balcomb, a former US Navy officer who solved a tragic mystery involving a mass stranding of whales in the Bahamas—and changed forever the way we understand our impact on the ocean. It also offers solutions and hope for a quieter ocean, and underscores that the ocean?s destiny is inextricably bound with our own. The hour long documentary is narrated by Rachel McAdams. Earth Day: The E-Waste Tragedy — Earth Day Eve
Every year, up to 50 million tons of electronic waste – computers, television sets, mobile phones, household appliances – are discarded in the developed world. 75% of this waste disappears from the legal recycling circuits, with much of it being shipped illegally to India, China or Africa. Join Tampa’s own Urban E Recycling for an Earth Day Eve celebration of community and screening of the feature film THE E-WASTE TRAGEDY. Begins at 7pm. FREE and open to the public!

Teenager Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) is left home alone by her parents to babysit her brother, Toby. While telling the fussy baby a story to get him to sleep, Sarah opens a portal to a fantasy world and conjures the Goblin King (David Bowie), who steals the child and hides him in a castle in the middle of a labyrinth. To rescue him, Sarah must find her way through the treacherous and ever-changing maze before midnight, or Toby will forever be the Goblin King's possession. This very special screening of Jim Henson's 1986 classic features subtitles on the screen so the crowd can yell out their favorite lines in unison and sing along with every song. There will also be an assortment of goodies in the prop bag provided upon entry, including bubbles to fill the magical land of Sarah’s dreamy ball, balloons to bounce around the theater during the fireys’ song, and – best of all – Whoopee Cushions to fart along with the Bog of Eternal Stench. The Room isn't a good movie. Actually, it's horrendous. It's incompetently made, stiffly acted, barely filmed, and written like somebody tore every other page out of a Harlequin romance and then translated it into Czech and back. And oh the interminable, unbearable "love" scenes. But it’s not a REWIND movie because it’s bad. The Room is a REWIND movie because it’s perfectly naive. We can laugh at it ironically because it's about the least ironic movie of the last 50 years. Tommy Wiseau made The Room, and nobody can ever take that away from him. He wrote, directed, produced, and stars in it. He thought it would make him a star. Beyond that, nobody knows him — he's given conflicting answers on his age, where he's from, how he paid for the movie, and what it even is. But art is a conversation, and whatever he was trying to make the audience feel, he succeeded in giving us a surreal, sui generi, pop-culture touchstone. He made a mess, and we made it funny. Incident at Vichy — Screening and Panel Discussion
The Florida Holocaust Museum is proud to present the nation’s first public screening and celebrity panel discussion ofIncident at Vichy – an original Arthur Miller play, directed by acclaimed Broadway director Michael Wilson and starring Emmy Award-winning actor Richard Thomas. At the height of World War II in Vichy, France – an area that was supposedly a “free zone” – nine men and a boy are rounded up under suspicious circumstances. As ominous reports of far-off camps and cattle cars packed with prisoners begin to circulate, the men battle over politics, philosophy and how to escape. Director Michael Wilson and Vichy Scholar Brian Phillips will lead a post-film panel discussion live on the Theatre’s historic stage; actor Richard Thomas will participate remotely. Marlon Wayans: The Scandal-Less Tour
Multi-talented entertainer, writer, director and comedian Marlon Wayans will embark on his first-ever North American tour this spring. The Scandal-Less Tour will take the acclaimed comedian to nearly 20 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, including a stop at Tampa Theatre on Saturday, May 21. Wayans’ films, which include WHITE CHICKS and A HAUNTED HOUSE, have grossed more than $736 million in domestically. He can currently be seen starring in the comedy sendup FIFTY SHADES OF BLACK, which he also wrote and executive produced. In 2015, Wayans hosted the hit NBC comedy/variety show I Can Do That!, and he is currently filming a pilot for NBC loosely based on his own life. Event begins at 8pm. Click HERE for tickets. How The West Was Wine. The Big Lebrewski. Planet of the Grapes. Beer and Loathing in Las Vegas. Over the years, Tampa’s majestic movie palace has had a lot of fun adding a tongue-in-cheek twist to some familiar movie titles to create the themes for their summer BeerFest and fall WineFest – two events that celebrate local, independent eateries, offer unique beer and wine pairings, help support the not-for-profit Theatre’s artistic and educational programming, and provide a great excuse for movie-inspired costumes. BeerFest 2016 will tee up an evening of irreverent fun with ‘Hoppy Gilmore’ on Saturday, June 18. Event co-chairs Michelle Baker – General Manager of The Refinery – and Veronica Danko – owner of The Independent Bar and Café – are back, promising plenty of craft beers and local brewers, plus snacks and samples from some of Tampa’s top independent restaurants, all against the backdrop of the 1996 Adam Sandler hit on the big screen.
