Tampa has been going to the dogs the last several years, and we’re here for it. It seems every year a new study names the city as one of the most dog-friendly in America, making it no surprise that more and more locals are adding good doggos to their families. With so many pups in town, one local company stands above them all when it comes to taking care of our furry loved ones.

Paws ‘n’ Rec, which recently opened its fourth Tampa Bay location, is the region’s premier dog care service. Not only do they offer incredible membership packages, daycare, and boarding, but they also stand above the rest in two key areas: they have the best dog-to-staff ratio anywhere in Tampa Bay, and they have the region’s absolute best dropoff and pickup hours, open daily from 6:30 am – 10 pm.

Paws ‘n’ Rec dubs itself the “ultimutt” fun, safe, and convenient dog daycare, grooming, spa, and overnight solution for pups and their owners. And luckily for us, they have three convenient Tampa locations, so no matter where you work, live or play, there’s a perfect spot – in Downtown Tampa (1719 W. Lemon St), on Gandy (4313 W Pearl Ave), and in North Hyde Park (1704 W Grace St). They also have a newly-opened location in St. Petersburg at 4300 28th St. North.

In addition to the dog spa and grooming services, Paws ‘n’ Rec offers two membership services – “daycare adventure” and “overnight hoteling,” providing options for daily care while pup parents are at work, or regular overnight stays when you’re out of town. And those memberships include 24-hour care, as well as perks such as discounts at area pet-related stores and businesses.

Another piece of what makes Paws ‘n’ Rec such a star is that they have medical-grade HVAC systems that produce 100% fresh, outside, filtered air that is pumped into the facilities at all times. With more than decade in the business, the team behind the company is at the top of the game and has earned the trust of repeat clients and members over the last 10 years.

Paws ‘n’ Rec was founded by two best friends, Taylor Wallace and Michael Mayleben in 2020. Mike has over a decade of experience running dog daycares while Taylor previously worked with Tech Startups both in Tampa and internationally. Paws ‘n’ Rec has truly been a labor of love for the duo, as they have created the kind of place they want to take their own dogs to. The care from staff and attention to detail is clear on any visit, as their passion for pups makes it a welcome for daycare, overnight stays, or even just some good grooming.

Wallace and Mayleben have brought their love of dogs and their owners to Paws ‘n’ Rec, where they currently employ nearly 100 full-time dog handlers to ensure pups have the highest quality of care offered in Tampa Bay. Learn more and sign up for memberships here.
