Childhood friends Nelson Valdes and Tim Booth have brought an Ybor City icon back to life. The first photos of Silver Ring Cafe appeared in Tampa History and TampaFoodie Facebook Groups. It’s now remeerged in the food court of Westshore Plaza (250 Westshore Plaza).
The funky bright orange Silver Ring sign seems like it belongs on the boardwalk of an East Coast beach town. It gives off a nostalgic, old-school vibe. Infinite amounts of TLC and passion have gone into bringing this icon back. The two retirees behind it have been crafting sandwiches for their entire lives, and now they’re happy to get back to sharing their craft.

Silver Ring’s famed Cuban sandwich begins with Cuban bread from Casino Bakery. Piles of roast pork, smoked ham, pickle, Salami, and Swiss cheese are added and all topped with the sandwich maker’s secret sauce.
The concept has been around for a long time, but it has been decades since it was in Tampa. You can also visit Silver Ring in nearby Riverview at 7419 US-301.
Fresh rolled devil crab, huge Italian sausages smothered peppers, onions, mustard on Cuban bread, and smoked ham Italian sandwiches comprise this nostalgic menu.
“Established in 1947, we’ve been serving up the quintessential Cuban sandwich experience for generations, earning a reputation as the go-to spot for locals and visitors alike,” write the owners. “Our commitment to authenticity is unwavering, with each sandwich crafted using time-honored recipes and premium ingredients.”
