Acclaimed artist Charly Palmer hosts limited-run pop-up gallery in Sarasota

Charly Palmer’s portrait of Constance Baker Motley (1921- 2005) was unveiled as the 47th Black Heritage stamp by the United States Postal Service series

Visible Men Academy is teaming up with Waterkolours Fine Art Gallery to bring Sarasota the 3rd Annual Visible Art Grows Hearts event featuring the work of the groundbreaking and award-winning artist Charly Palmer. Get ready to experience art like never before at the Bayfront Community Center in Sarasota, located at 803 N. Tamiami Trail. It’s going to be a vibrant “pop-up” gallery filled with incredible pieces from local and national artists.

One of Palmer’s most famous quotes is “art should change the temperature in a room.” The works on display at this gallery live up to those words. His paintings are a blend of African heritage and modern experiences, telling stories that truly resonate with everyone who sees them. Come join us and let’s dive into the rich tapestry of art together.

“As a Black child of the mid-’60s, my parents did all they could to shield me from the horrors of racism, especially through the unconditional love and vigilant protection of my mother, Irma Walker,” Palmer told TIME magazine. Walker died in 2008. The floral imagery in his paintings since then pays homage to her.

Palmer was selected by John Legend in 2020 to create a cover portrait for Legend’s Grammy Award-winning Bigger Love album. He was also commissioned by TIME magazine to create the cover art and illustrations for the magazine’s “America Must Change” July 2020 issue, based on his 20 years of experience painting the modern black experience.
