RiverFest, one of the most anticipated events of the year in the city of Tampa, will be canceled out of an abundance of caution. The Friends of the Tampa Riverwalk made the announcement on February 23.

“Friends of the Riverwalk had hoped to hold Tampa Riverfest in 2021,” the organizers wrote in a joint statement. “However, following dialogue with event organizers, city leaders, and health care experts, we believe it is best to cancel the event this year.”

The good news is that Tampa Riverfest 2022 is already on the books for May 6-7. So at least we have that to look forward to.

In year’s past, the weekend-long fest featured live music, food trucks, hot air balloons, light displays, fireworks, projection mapping on the Sykes tower and more.

The City of Tampa just announced it would not go ahead with its River O’ Green Celebration for St. Patrick’s Day because they feared it would draw too big of a crowd.

Gasparilla Pirate Festival has also been canceled in 2021. The good news is these event will happen in 2022, and they will certainly be bigger and better than ever.
