For the past few years, Tampa International Airport and airlines flying out of the hub have worked exhaustively to better connect the city to the tech hub that is California. The airport made major waves when they landed nonstop flights to San Francisco with United Airlines.
Beginning January 8, 2018, Southwest Airlines will provide nonstop service between San Diego Airport and TPA. The once daily flights will offer the roughly 150 passengers who fly between the two cities daily a more convenient means travel.
$99 tickets to the West Coast
Tickets are being offered for as low as $99 one way if purchased between June 22 and 26. To book your seat on the new flights, visit Southwest’s website.
This service is going to be a game-changer for us. Southwest is very committed to this market and this new flight to San Diego furthers that commitment even more.
– TPA CEO Joe Lopano
This complements the flurry of nonstop routes the airport continues to land:
In recent months it’s also been ranked as the 2nd best airport in the U.S., and has hosted multiple jobs fairs filling nearly 600 positions at their brand new restaurants, bars and retail shops.
This will be Southwest’s 38th nonstop destination from Tampa International and its first on the West Coast. Mondays through Fridays, the flight will depart TPA at 9:40am and arrive in San Diego at 11:55am, then depart San Diego at 12:45pm, arriving at TPA at 8pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, the flight will depart San Diego at 9:05am to arrive at TPA at 4:30pm, then depart TPA at 4:50pm and arrive in San Diego at 7pm.
