Tampa residents love their tacos. The city, and the entire region already enjoy a plethora of taco options (our personal favorite being Don Julio’s), and it looks like another major name is joining the roster of foodie options: Torchy’s. This Texas-based taco joint is renowned in Texas, and residents in the area who have tried it before on trips are buzzing about the expansion. This restaurant will open in neighboring St. Pete at 2314 Tyrone Blvd N, in the same area where a new Portillo’s recently debuted.

Torchy’s is celebrated for their 7 different breakfast tacos, their smoked beef brisket and Baja shrimp tacos, massive burritos, and their super sweet fried cookie dough bites. An opening timeline is still TBA. This could be their first ever Florida location, though another restaurant in Altamonte Springs is currently in the works.

“In living by our Damn Good mantra, we’re constantly innovating to ensure we’re delivering the tastiest tacos, queso, and margaritas in the game,” writes the ownership team on Torchy’s official website. This concept is also as green as the tasty guac they serve. “Torchy’s thanks the environment by only stocking napkins, cups and cutlery made from 100% renewable resources. Even our used cooking oil is turned into fuel for cars.”

This restaurant garners ample volumes of hype for their Taco of the Month, and each special handheld delicacy is dedicated to serving a worth cause. “Whether it’s cancer research at MD Anderson, childhood enrichment at Make-A-Wish Foundation or addiction recovery at Phoenix House, we believe in leaving the world better than we found it.” A portion of the proceeds from every Taco of the Month goes towards these causes.

Follow Torchy’s on Instagram for updates on new locations and even more expansion plans in the state of Florida. The Altamonte Springs location will be located at 999 N. State Road 434. The Orlando location is planned for the Vineland Pointe shopping complex, 11513 Regency Village Drive.

The business itself began with a red vespa and a food trailer. Now over a decade later Tochy’s boasts 100+ locations across the country.
