Tucked into VM Ybor at 2701 N 15th St, Black Radish Vegan Bodega has become one of Tampa’s most beloved destinations for plant-based eats. Part grocery store, part cafe, and part deli, this cozy corner shop has built a loyal following with its inventive vegan breakfast sandwiches, strong coffee game, and community-first approach. Now celebrating four years of serving the city, the Bodega shows no signs of slowing down.
From day one, the goal was clear: make vegan food accessible, fun, and flavorful.

“We wanted a place where anyone could walk in and find a treat — no animal products involved,” said the owners of Black Radish. “Back then, vegan options weren’t easy to come by in major stores, especially if you needed gluten-free or wanted to support independent brands. That gap inspired us to build something better.”
Black Radish is a vital part of Tampa’s vegan scene
More than a business, Black Radish has become a vital part of Tampa’s plant-based scene. Over the years, it’s grown from a niche idea into a trusted community hub, offering everything from pantry staples and snacks to hot sandwiches and barista-crafted drinks.
The most rewarding part of the journey for the owners has been sharing that space with others, with the community playing a significant role in Black Radish’s success.
“We really do believe there’s something here for everyone,” they said. “We’ve always accepted EBT because food accessibility is important to us. But after the hurricanes last year, we pushed that commitment even further.”
The community supports one another through hard times
In response to the storm’s impact, Black Radish introduced a pay-what-you-can option for its hot food menu. The community responded with overwhelming generosity — donating funds to cover meals for others, no questions asked.
“It was this powerful moment of mutual support,” the owners said. “It showed us how much people care and want to lift each other up. That’s something we’ll never stop doing.”
While the bodega stocks a wide range of plant-based products, its cafe has become a local favorite thanks to its crave-worthy vegan breakfast sandwiches. Built with bold flavors and a touch of Tampa flair, the menu reimagines classic fast food with a heart.
Encouraging the team to evolve the menu
“The vision was always: knock off Mickey D’s breakfast, but do it better and vegan,” the owners said.
Fan favorites include the Steak & Egg Bagel, made in honor of one owner’s mom. It’s even better, they say, if you upgrade it with an everything bagel Curious Cat croissant. Another standout is the Breakfast Cuban — a one-of-a-kind sandwich you won’t find anywhere else in the city. “Tina’s way,” they add, “if you’re feeling adventurous.”
Since opening, the owners have witnessed Tampa’s plant-based community flourish.
“There’s so much more awareness now,” they said. “We’re proud to be part of that shift, and we hope Black Radish has helped show people that vegan food can be fun, accessible, and incredibly flavorful.”
An anniversary party is in the works
The Bodega is hosting a party in late May to celebrate its fourth anniversary. The event will feature food from Da Meat Up, desserts by Alevri Co., and a raffle to raise money for Vegan Chef Ray and his medical recovery.
“It’s going to be a real celebration,” they said. “Games, community, and all your favorite vegan purveyors coming together.”
Looking ahead, the Bodega has no plans to stay still. With a creative and passionate team in place, the owners are stepping back and letting the staff contribute new ideas.
“We’re focusing on lunch and drink specials and experimenting with bold, delicious flavors,” they shared. “Our crew is crushing it right now. It’s exciting to see.”
Experience vegan breakfast on a croissant
If you’re new to Black Radish, the owners recommend a simple meal: café con leche and a BOC (their signature Breakfast On a Croissant sandwich).
“Order it however you like it,” they said. “Then get ready to forget you’re not eating meat or dairy. That’s how good it is.”
With four years under their belt and a community that keeps showing up, Black Radish remains a shining example of what happens when passion, purpose, and good food come together.
