The best time of year is finally, blissfully here. For the next 7-8 months, life is all about spending time outside, whether it’s on the back patio for dinner or morning coffee, or out strolling at beaches and markets.

If you lean toward the former, Patio Lane Outdoor Living is the local success story that won’t just have your patio and yard at their most comfortable and inviting, but will make you feel good about doing it. Patio Lane Outdoor Living is a family-owned and run business that got its start in Largo 40 years ago, and today, they have become the region’s go-to for motorized screens, retractable awnings, hurricane-rated pergolas, custom outdoor kitchens and more. Everything in their residential outdoor showroom is commercial grade, too, so it’s built to stand up to Florida weather. If you want to be comfortable outside, they have a way to make it happen, and make your space look great in the process.

As a kid, I used to love walking around the outdoor section at the grocery store. As an adult, I’ve discovered something even better: that Patio Lane Outdoor Living’s outdoor showroom (10820 US 19 N) is a Mecca for those who love evenings under the stars, mornings watching the sunrise, and everything in between, so long as it’s in the fresh air. It’s the kind of place that you walk in without any plans for an outdoor entertaining setup, then walk out with an entire blueprint in your head for how to create the ultimate backyard. Fortunately, that’s what they do best.

A standalone swing? A comfy daybed? New shading, updated upholstery, or replacements for furniture cushions that look like they’ve been in the family since the ’60s? Patio Lane Outdoor Living does it all, and they personalize it to every individual and their needs. It’s the local touch you don’t get at the big box stores.

“We help customers create comfortable spaces that feel personal, polished, and made to fit,” Patio Lane Outdoor Living explains. That’s the kind of company you want to trust with your eight months of outdoor relaxation and entertaining. Summer may feel long, but fall and spring stuck indoors feels longer.

Plus, building your dream backyard also supports a local company, with local employees, run by a local family. Everything stays here, including you, once that patio setup is finished.

Patio Lane Outdoor Living keeps it local

Today, the company has built itself on decades of expertise in homes, outdoors and customization to become the region’s go-to. Their story makes it clear how that happened, and why they’ve remained local and beloved in the process.

The Patio Lane story starts with an awning shop. In 1985, Steven and Deborah Schechner opened Awning Works in Largo, a family business built around awnings, canopies and shade solutions for local companies and residential homes. Their sons, Jarrett and Jeremy, grew up in the shop and picked up the trade from the ground up, from choosing fabric and welding frames to installing the finished product and talking with customers. Doing the job right was part of the daily routine.

That hands-on education shaped everything that came after. Jarrett kept working with architects, designers, builders and homeowners on custom awning and shade projects, while Jeremy took the company in a new direction by launching an eCommerce division. It let customers across the country order the same trusted fabrics the family had been using for years, including custom-sized pieces for both outdoor and indoor spaces. Wendy later joined to grow the marketing side and help push the business toward a fuller indoor and outdoor living brand. The Awning Works team even completed all the awnings, canopies, umbrellas and shade structures for the St. Pete Pier.

Patio Lane Outdoor Living is where all of that experience landed: custom shade and screen solutions, durable outdoor kitchens and furnishings, custom cushions and textiles, and landscape enhancements all under one roof. For the family, it’s less about selling products and more about helping people make the spaces where they gather, relax and entertain a little better.

To get started on your family’s gathering space, peruse Patio Lane Outdoor Living’s services and offerings online, or stop by their Clearwater showroom, 10820 US 19 N, to find your inspiration. And if you don’t have time to make the drive (or just have too many kids to keep track of) they’ll bring their mobile showroom to you so you can see motorized screens and retractable awnings in action and receive guidance from an outdoor living design expert right at home.
