The Lutz Bananas are headed to the World Series! This is only the second time in the team’s history they’ve reached this spot. It’s time to go bananas for this youth baseball team.

A fundraiser has been launched to help with overall travel expenses to get the team to the big game, which is being played in Branson, Missouri. They’ve raised $4,785 of an overall $10,000 goal.

“I am absolutely thrilled to reach out to you today on behalf of the LUTZ BANANAS, a phenomenal youth baseball team that has recently punched their ticket to the Cal Ripken World Series in none other than Branson, Missouri!” writes Ellen Perry, the fundraiser organizer. “These young athletes have been on fire this season, racking up a string of victories along the way. They secured the District Tournament championship right here in Lutz, FL, they came oh-so-close to bringing home the State Tournament title, being the runner-up in Key West, FL. And just when you thought they couldn’t get any better, they absolutely dominated the competition and emerged as the champions of the Regional Championship in Virginia.”

Lutz Bananas look to take home the World Series

The team requires financial support to make their way to Branson for the 1 week World Series extravaganza. After pouring their hearts and souls into three previous tournaments and shouldering the costs of travel expenses, this dedicated team has exhausted a considerable sum of money, writes Ellen Perry.

The Bananas first game in the World Series is this Friday, August 4, against the all-stars from Arkansas.

The competition will last for 10 days and feature 34 teams, including 10 from outside the United States: Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Japan, Bahamas, The Netherlands, Korea, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and the Caribbean.

The initial games will be part of pool play, with the winners of the pools advancing to the knockout stages of the tournament. The first and second place U.S. teams in each group, along with the first, second, and third place teams in pool play from the international pools, will play for the World Series Championship.

The remaining teams will also play a knockout tournament to determine the “Iron Bracket” champion, meaning every team will participate in at least one post-pool game.
