When the owner of Dysfunctional Grace, my personal favorite shop in Ybor City, recommends a taco joint, I make a point to go. Welcome Jimmy’s Tacos to the historic neighborhood. The bright yellow taco shop in Historic Ybor offers ample shaded seating with one of the most impressive menus I’ve sampled to date.
The popular food hub has popped up at markets all over Tampa Bay, including St. Pete Beach’s booming Corey Avenue Market, before opening its brick-and-mortar. So, what’s makes Jimmy’s so special?

Start with the Oaxacadilla featuring Oaxaca Cheese in a flour quesadilla served with a side of sour cream or pico de gallo. The pozole verde is perfect for those chillier Florida afternoons. Pozole is a traditional soup made from hominy with meat. Top it with shredded cabbage. You can enjoy the soup as is, or treat it like a dip on those crispy, salty corn chips.
From there, the menu is short and sweet. I’m a big a proponent of shrimp tacos, and Jimmy’s offers arguably the best in the area. Indulge in grilled Gulf shrimp tacos grilled or blackened topped with mango salsa.
Save room for churros. Those cinnamon covered tubes of fried heaven are one of the top tier desserts in the entire Tampa Bay region.
The dish that’s almost too pretty to eat is the Quesabirria. A pure accordion of cheese stretches out from inside the tortilla as a waterfall of birria drips down on the plate.
If you want more bang for your buck make sure you order up Jimmy’s Feast.
Jimmy’s Tacos is located 1604 N 17th Street. Follow them on Instagram for more fantastic food teasers, and view a full menu on Jimmy’s website.
