Help cleanup the Riverwalk and Hillsborough River on Earth Day

The event kicks off with check-in at 8 a.m., and the cleanup runs until 11 a.m. You can register in advance online. Volunteers will help remove litter, beautify downtown Tampa, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable city. Whether you’re walking the path or paddling the river (yes, kayakers are welcome—just bring your own vessel), your time and energy will make a visible difference along the waterway.

This hands-on effort is a collaboration between Friends of the Riverwalk, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, and the City of Tampa. It’s part of the Trash Free Waters Program, a nationwide initiative that brings people together to tackle pollution at its source—on land and in our waterways. Litter in parks, rivers, and city streets not only harms wildlife, it also disrupts the charm of downtown Tampa. This cleanup is a chance to show pride in your city and help preserve its natural beauty.

Volunteers should bring:

  • Close-toed shoes for protection
  • Garden or work gloves (soft gloves will be provided too)
  • Sunscreen
  • A hat and sunglasses

Join the community to make the area more beautiful

Free trash bags, water, and promotional giveaways (while supplies last) will be available at the site. The exact parking location for volunteers is still TBD, so keep an eye out for updates.

Cotanchobee Park is located at 601 Water St and provides a perfect launchpad for this important Earth Day effort. With views of the Hillsborough River and easy access to the Riverwalk’s museums, parks, and restaurants, it’s an ideal spot to give back and enjoy the city.
