Hillsborough County votes to implement curfew effective immediately

 Hillsborough County’s Emergency Policy Group has passed an overnight curfew. This is in addition to the current safer-at-home order.

The curfew will be in place every day from 9pm-5am.

The Hillsborough County Police Department has received more than 200 complaints regarding residents not complying with the safer-at-home order and/or social distancing guidelines.

Some members of the group worried that having two orders could confuse residents; but ultimately the measure passed in a 5-3 vote, and the curfew will begin being enforced Monday night.

Manatee County implemented its own curfew earlier in April, and just voted to extend it. Officials in Hillsborough hope the curfew will keep more residents at home as Florida officials continue to try and stop the spread of COVID-19.
