Friends of Ybor open new 4,000-square-foot dog park this month

Rendering of dog park with plants, trees, dogs and open space

Friends of Ybor, a 501c3, will cut the ribbon on their very first project December 17 from 10am-noon. The concept is a thoughtfully designed dog park and cafe space at the corner of 18th Street and 4th Avenue. Organizers wrote the following in their fundraising goals when the project was first announced:

“Our funding goal for the design, construction, and start up costs for the Ybor City Dog Park is $600,000.  With your philanthropic participation, the Ybor City Dog Park will become an extremely attractive public amenity for our neighborhood!”

This dog park is situated next door to a new cafe nestled within an adjacent park – “this urban infill dog park will be a welcomed amenity for the neighborhood and for the city,” writes the Friends of Ybor organization.

Those interested in supporting the endeavor can do so on the organization’s website.

Working closely with the City of Tampa and business owners, this public-private partnership serves community activation through areas such as:

  • Community events
  • Curated spaces
  • Beautification of public spaces and parks
  • Restoring and preserving the historic district
