The Commodore Improv Theater coming soon to Historic Ybor City

The Commodore is set to be the next great improv and sketch comedy theater in the Tampa area. It’s scheduled to open in September in Ybor City, and the organization has launched a kickstarter campaign to help bring the project to life. Owners  Kelly Buttermore, Justin Peters, Matt Walker, John Lasavath, and Kevin Michalskian have set an overall fundraising goal of $30,000, with just over $6,000 raised so far.

“Located in a 2250-square foot former beloved billiards hall on the western outskirts of Ybor City, in a vibrant strip of businesses including a natural wine bar, a popular restaurant, a yoga studio, and a theater company, The Commodore is Tampa’s new home for improv and sketch comedy performance and education,” writes the group in their Kickstarter page.

The Commodore will feature shows several nights per week from top local, regional, and national performers, with a programming focus on the sort of adventurous, alternative work that you might see on a nightly basis in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, according to the theater’s page.

“Our training center, meanwhile, will offer workshops and classes in improv, standup, and sketch comedy, with a curriculum designed to take regular people and put them in position to be confident, funny, resilient, and brilliant: on stage, at work, and in their everyday lives,” writes the five person team behind The Commodore.

Donations to the Kickstarter will help fund the following:
