Senior Advice looked at a few different factors: percentage of LGBT population, the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index, the LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce presence, the number of gay-friendly senior communities, local and state legislation protecting the LGBTQ community, and the cost of living.
The article says in addition to the LGBT events that we have here, like the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, (We see you, TIGLFF!!), we also scored a PERFECT score of the HRCMEI. The HRCMEI is the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipality Equality Index.
The article mentions Tampa Pride in March, St. Pete Pride in June, and even includes a nod to newly-elected Mayor Jane Castor!
The LGBTQ+ population is estimated to be over 6% in Tampa, according to Senior Advice.
We are proud of Tampa’s diversity and we are proud to be a part of this list! Come retire here; we’ve got your back!
