There can never be too many Mexican spots in Tampa, right? At the very least, Downtown has a buzzy new place to try beginning this week. The hotly-anticipated Rreal Tacos officially opens to the public on Tuesday, October 13, welcoming diners and imbibers from 11 am to midnight daily (11 pm on Sundays).
The Atlanta-born Mexican concept is located at 808 N Franklin St. in the former Haiku location, and it has managed to rack up nearly 200 five-star Google reviews just over the course of a three-day friends-and-family soft opening over the weekend. Once the excitement settles a bit, you likely won’t need a reservation, but if you’re attempting to stop in this week, it wouldn’t hurt to snag one to be safe.

As for the experience, Rreal Tacos is known for having a vibrant and upbeat atmosphere, highlighted by a glitzy interior, while still keeping the food affordable and approachable. It’s Mexican street food, but make it vibey. The kitchen itself specializes in street tacos on handmade tortillas that represent various regions of Mexico, sourcing ingredients from those regions when possible. That menu also features plenty of appetizers, quesadillas, burritos, bowls, birria and more.
On the bar side, they take their margarita program seriously, while also catering to the party crowd by making any drink available as a pitcher. 64 ounces of Hennessy Margarita sounds equal parts dangerous and enticing, depending on your mood.
More highlights at Rreal Tacos include tableside gauc service, taco combo deals (two tacos with rice and beans for $10), a variety of gluten free or vegetarian dishes, birria pizzas, and a full kids menu.
Tampa is the 13th location for Rreal Tacos, which is not at all ominous ahead of Halloween and with its October 13th opening date. This marks the beginning of their expansion in the region, as they are opening in Downtown St. Pete in 2027 in the former Red Mesa Cantina building.
