Northdale has something new to celebrate. Mother’s Restaurant, the beloved upscale-casual comfort food destination, is back open after a nearly yearlong closure. It debuted at the end of May in its new location at 3825 Northdale Blvd.

The specific reason Mother’s went dark last summer has been a bit of a mystery. One day it was there, serving braised pork shank and craft cocktails with names like “Drunk Piggy,” and then the Yelp page simply read “CLOSED. Try Our New Menu,” which scans like a breakup text that also includes a coupon.

What we do know is that the comeback is very much real, and it’s arriving with fresh energy. Guests who’ve visited recently are raving about a revamped menu featuring dishes like a Salmon Wellington, which is exactly the kind of entrée that makes you feel like you’ve finally figured things out while wearing comfortable shoes. The cocktail menu, which was already a genuine point of pride here, has reportedly been updated too. Mother’s has a new chef leading the kitchen, because nothing signals a fresh start quite like new hands on the braising pan.

Mother’s first opened in 2016 and quickly became a Westchase institution. The restaurant built its reputation on scratch-kitchen cooking at accessible prices, with a menu that ranged from the legendary beef on weck sandwich to an ambitious braised pork shank. Handcrafted cocktails gave the bar serious credibility. Live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights finished the package. People were going back week after week, and for years, it was simply where the neighborhood ate when it wanted to eat well.

The new hours run Sunday through Wednesday from 11 am – 9 pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 11 am – 10 pm. It’s a focused, sensible schedule that still leaves plenty of room for a solid weeknight dinner or a weekend night out.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to return, or just a solid excuse to try that Salmon Wellington, this is it. For more information, visit their website or call (813) 814-1533.
