PHOTOS two new blocks of brick streets added to Historic Ybor City

In a bid to calm traffic on a bustling road that sees significant pedestrian activity year-round, a project to brick Ybor City’s historic 7th Avenue is underway. The 1500 and 1600 Blocks have been completed, and they look fantastic.

This bricking initiative, funded by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), will be executed in phases. The first phase, stretching between North 15th and 17th Streets, took approvimately two weeks, with work proceeding one block at a time. Once completed, the project will span fourteen blocks along 7th Avenue, from Nick Nuccio Parkway to 26th Street.

Despite the construction, the sidewalks on both the north and south sides of the street will remain accessible. However, street parking on this segment of 7th Avenue will be unavailable during the construction period. To assist patrons in locating businesses, signage will be posted at each corner.

Utilize the streetcar to visit and explore Ybor City

Residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize the TECO Line Streetcar as a car-free alternative to navigate the district during the construction phase.

This project is not only about traffic calming; it aims to promote alternative modes of transportation, enhance connectivity, boost local businesses, and contribute to the economic growth of Ybor City. By using authentic historic bricks, the project will enhance the authenticity of the National Historic Landmark District, allowing residents and visitors to better connect with the city’s rich past.
