The Florida Aquarium is back in action, opening its doors to the public today, Monday, October 14, resuming regular operating hours. This reopening comes after Hurricane Milton, thanks to the careful preparation and tireless dedication of the Aquarium’s staff.
With the storm approaching, the team took swift action to safeguard the animals, moving nine penguins and several other creatures to higher floors. They also relocated thousands of corals under their care and transferred a rescued green sea turtle, Calintina, from the Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center in Apollo Beach to their Tampa location. Calintina, who was initially rescued after Hurricane Helene by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, rode out Hurricane Milton safely before returning to the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend.
