Chef Richard Hales is self-described as an unpure purist who delights in bringing flavors from his travels back to Florida. Blackbrick is an acclaimed restaurant in Miami, and his newest location is officially open at 4812 N Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. Those interested in visiting can make reservations online now. Let’s add to this Bib Gourmand Award-winning city.
Chef Hales grew up in Tampa before moving to New York City in 1997 to start his own culinary journey. Well over a dozen restaurant openings later, the renowned chef is ready to showcase his beloved Blackbrick to Tampa.

Blackbrick is Tampa’s next great restaurant
Hales’ culinary range progressed beyond his formal education during his backpacking throughout Asia, Europe and South America learning, eating and discovering. I always thinks it’s best to start with dessert, and Hales does not disappoint with the sweets menu at Blackbrick. The K’ dunk Cookie features Wife Hales’ chocolate chip cookie stuffed with peanut butter filled pretzels, and Reese’s peanut butter chips. Vegan soft serve, the Filipino staple Halo Halo, and Shou Zhua Bing (Nutella stuffed pastry hand grab pie, five spice sugar) round out the menu.
Brisket and Lobster noodle dishes, Paella fried rice, and fried chicken and honey dumplings are easy showstoppers on the main menu. Guests can also opt for the chef’s tasting menu if they would like a culinary guide on their night out. Sichuan Cauliflower, chili and garlic smacked cucumbers, smoked duck soup dumplings, and Richard’s Grandmother’s shrimp egg rolls are all signature items folks are encouraged to try.
