Tampa International Airport (TPA) has secured a $40 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as part of an initiative under President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding will support the construction of a new Airside D, enhancing TPA’s efficiency and capacity to serve millions of travelers annually.

The grant is part of a $970 million federal investment in 125 airports across 46 states, Guam, and Palau, reflecting the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure, creating local jobs, and fostering economic growth nationwide.

Funding the future of travel at TPA

At TPA, the grant will fund a new automated people mover connecting Airside D to the main terminal and add nine passenger boarding bridges. These upgrades aim to streamline passenger flow and accommodate TPA’s growing demand for domestic and international travel.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the impact of these investments, stating, “Investing in America’s airport infrastructure isn’t just about upgrading runways and terminals—it’s about growing local economies, creating jobs, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of travel.” He emphasized that the nearly $1 billion investment will modernize airports across the U.S., making travel safer, more accessible, and more convenient for millions of travelers.

With this funding, TPA takes another step toward its ambitious expansion goals, positioning itself as a leading hub for efficient, passenger-friendly travel in the Southeast.
