Cinco de Mayo events in Tampa that are more than just “we have Tex-Mex”

Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a fact that approximately zero percent of people recite before their third margarita. Tampa’s not here to lecture you about that, though. What it is here to do is throw a solid weekend of events that range from a Riverwalk taco festival to a Latin food and music party in Land O’ Lakes, and if you happen to learn something along the way, that’s a bonus. Here’s where to be.

Cinco de Mayo Run Against All Odds (5K/10K/Half-Marathon)
Saturday, May 2 | 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Campbell Trail, Tampa, FL 33615

Apparently someone decided the best way to honor a historic military victory is to make people run. And honestly? Respect. This race leans directly into the spirit of the holiday, framing itself as a challenge of resilience, community, and culture with distances ranging from a 1-mile fun run all the way to a half-marathon. It’s organized, it’s festive, and it gives you a good excuse to eat tacos for the rest of the day. Registration options include 5K, 10K, 13.1, virtual, and a family fun mile, with an eco-registration option if you want to skip the shirt.

Tampa Riverfest: TacoFest
Saturday, May 2 | 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park – 600 N Ashley Dr

This year marks Riverfest’s 10th anniversary, and it’s free to attend along the full 2.6-mile Tampa Riverwalk. The Cinco de Mayo-adjacent hook here is TacoFest, and this year it’s getting a new format as a TacoFest Food Truck Rally, with four local trucks each serving their own take on tacos. Wristbands for three tacos run $20, and five tacos will cost you $25. The broader festival also includes live music, a Wiener Dog Derby, a Lantern Parade, a water ski show, and a new dedicated kid zone at Water Works Park. It’s a lot of event for a free admission.

Cinco de Mayo Latin Food & Music Festival
Sunday, May 3 | Doors at 1:00 p.m.
Land O’ Lakes Heritage Park – 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd

A short drive north of Tampa, Stormy Bay Entertainment is hosting a full-day Latin food and music festival with live Latin music, food vendors, Mesquite Fire Tequila cocktails, and dancing. It’s all-ages, family-friendly, and pitched as a celebration of Latin culture rather than a bar crawl wearing a sombrero. Land O’ Lakes Heritage Park is a solid outdoor venue for this kind of thing, and the combination of food, live music, and dancing makes it one of the more complete options on this list.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay: Cinco de Mayo
Saturday, May 3 – Monday, May 5
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay – 10165 McKinley Dr

From May 3 through May 5, the Busch Gardens Food and Wine Festival shifts into Cinco de Mayo mode with live Latin music and limited-time menu items available only during those three days. Weekend performances include Michael Alvarez on piano and vocals at Springs Taproom, and Stella Beat performing authentic salsa and merengue in Coke Canopy. It’s included with park admission, which makes it one of the lower-lift options if you’ve already got kids in tow or a theme park day on the calendar anyway.

Tampa’s Official Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl
Saturday, May 2 | 5:00 p.m.
Centro Cantina – 1600 East 8th Ave, Ybor City

This organized crawl takes participants through a lineup of bars across the city with festive drink specials and a party atmosphere built specifically around Cinco de Mayo. It’s not high culture, but it’s also not pretending to be. If your group’s priority is a guided, social night out in Ybor with a built-in crowd and themed energy, this is the move. Tickets are available on now, and it’s worth grabbing them early since these tend to sell.
