Bayshore Boulevard is one of the longest continuous sidewalks in America. The pedestrian and cyclist expanse includes public art and free fitness equipment. This is all to say that it’s easy to break a sweat on Bayshore and sometimes it’s nice to unwind with something cool and refreshing. Queue Strachan’s, a new homemade ice cream shop opening soon at 5435 Bayshore Blvd.
Strachan’s has served the Tampa Bay for nearly 25 years. Original owners Bill and Susan Strachan left the corporate world and opened the first Strachan’s Ice Cream & Desserts in Palm Harbor in 1999. Their homemade ice cream quickly gained notoriety, but it’s the homemade carrot cake that truly wows visitors.

In 2008 the Strachan’s scooped up their second location on Main Street in Dunedin. With its black and white checkerboard tiled floor and parlor-style bar stools, the Dunedin location provided the community a “trip down memory lane” with its nostalgic family-friendly feel.
This frozen dessert vision now continues with its current owners The Engelhardt family.
“When given the opportunity to take over and continue the Strachan’s tradition of great ice cream, desserts, and service, we jumped at the chance,” write the Engelhardts. “We are proudly carrying on the legacy of Strachan’s hand-crafted ice cream techniques and secret dessert recipes that have brought smiles to our customer’s faces, young and old.”
An official opening date for the Tampa location is still TBA. Follow Strachan’s on Facebook for updates.
