Tampa Bay is set to host the 2nd annual Tampa Bay Debris Derby on Saturday, October 5, at E.G. Simmons Park (2401 19th Ave NW, Ruskin), organized by Power-Pole®, Tampa Bay Waterkeeper, Skinny Water Culture, Ocean Aid 360, and the Tampa Bay Estuary Program. This engaging tournament invites teams from across the community to vie for the title of “Debris Derby Heavyweight Champion.” Last year, 140 volunteers joined forces to remove 4,663.6 lbs of trash from our waters.
The Debris Derby aims to promote environmental stewardship through a fun and competitive event where teams of friends, families, colleagues, and neighbors will gather to collect marine debris. Participants can compete either by boat or on land, transforming the routine task of trash collection into an exciting challenge. Teams will earn raffle tickets for each bag of trash they weigh in, increasing their chances of winning as they collect more debris.

Special prizes, including those donated by Power-Pole and Costa Del Mar, will be awarded for the strangest item found and the most trash collected by weight. In addition to fostering community pride in maintaining a healthy Tampa Bay, the event offers participants a free Tampa Bay Debris Derby shirt and lunch, generously provided by La Segunda.
Registration is required for this free event, promising a day of camaraderie and environmental impact.
