We say this because a recent restaurant opening in Hyde Park is billing the earthy cadences of leafy greens as their menu star. And a whole lot of wine for good measure! Welcome to Wine and Wood.

Sip on oaked white wines and healthy greens
Wine and Wood recently opened in the restaurant hotbed of Hyde Park- a hop and jump from the Smoothie King off Swann Avenue at 614 S. Howard Street near the Chase Bank. In fact, Wine and Wood is from the same owners of the taste-bud friendly, flatbread emporium, Fruitwood Standup Market.
Their new venture has quite an inviting and verdant entrance and it truly seems to encapsulate what Wine and Wood’s atmosphere is all about: a glass of wine and warm firewood all framed in a luscious field of green.
Approachable and wide ranging wine selection
Inside guests are treated to red and white wines on tap like Hayes Valley and Gotham Project’s “Gazerra” Pinot Grigio. The rest of the wine menu is broken down into easily understood offerings like “oaked whites” to “full-bodied reds” mostly all available by the glass or bottle.
Wine and Wood is not an intimidating wine bar, but an accessible hangout spot – the décor certainly shouts this with all its simple brick and wood accents – perfect for an after work sip and bite or an evening date.
Now, let’s get to the fun part – check out this homey food! For small and mighty plates, Wine and Wood is throwing down with wood-fired corn salad topped with clouds of mozzarella, tomatoes and a sherry vinaigrette. If you are still reading and haven’t headed toward the car yet, they also are slinging wood-fired gulf shrimp and Buffalo cauliflower!

Veggie pizza is king at Wine and Wood
Sliding off Wine and Wood’s long wooden paddles are a series of green-heavy pizzas that will surely be attracting the Hyde Park crowd. Green apple and Gorgonzola pizza drizzled with balsamic vinegar plus a roasted cauliflower and pear pizza topped with arugula and a honey drizzle! Alright, we are done, you can head over now!
