Tampa has solidified its reputation as a pet lover’s paradise, recently being named the second-best city for pet owners in the U.S. by WalletHub. This accolade comes from a comparison of the 100 largest cities in the country, evaluated across 23 key metrics, including veterinarian costs, the number of pet businesses per capita, and walkability. Special shoutout to Two Shepherd’s Taproom (4813 N Grady Ave) for the great featured image. This sprawling indoor/outdoor dog park and bar is a must-visit destination for pet owners.

Tampa shines in several areas, particularly when it comes to animal shelters, where it ranks at the top of the nation. A huge thank you to Adam Goldberg whose wonderful pet photography for local shelters has helped so may pets in need find loving homes across Tampa Bay. Pet health care is another strong suit for the city, boasting an impressive number of veterinarians per capita.

Tons of dog-friendly restaurants and bars across Tampa

For renters, Tampa is a haven for pet owners, with over 94% of rental listings allowing pets. My pups Mokha and Bandit very much appreciate these pet-friendly policies. Dog owners will also appreciate the abundance of doggie daycares and boarding facilities, perfect for those who need care for their furry friends during busy days or vacations.

Adding to the city’s pet-friendly charm, Tampa boasts the 10th-most dog parks per capita, and many dog-friendly restaurants, ensuring there are plenty of spots to enjoy time with your pet.

Our friends at Visit Tampa Bay have a great dog-friendly guide in case you’re looking to explore the city with your pet.
