Mi Caretta is an authentic Colombian restaurant and bakery, and one of the most celebrated food hubs in neighboring St. Petersburg. The owners have just announced that they’re opening a second location in the city of Tampa!
The new restaurant and bakery will be located at the Corner of Sheldon Road and West Hillsborough Avenue.

Mi Carretta is famous for its Colombian cheese balls, fajita specials (the shrimp is my favorite), pandebono (Colombian bread made of corn flour, cassava starch, cheese, eggs, guava jam), Rosconés (sweet bread filled with guava paste), and my personal favorite Salchipapas (thinly sliced pan-fried beef sausages and French fries, mixed together with a savory coleslaw on the side).
If the weather ever cools down again, the sopa de mondongo is clutch. Sopa de mondongo is a soup made from diced tripe slow-cooked with vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, carrots, cabbage, celery, tomatoes, cilantro, garlic or root vegetables. It is fantastic.

The extensive selection of pastries make it a must visit concept in the early morning. Arepas feature heavy here and are as sensational as everything else on the menu.
My favorite appetizers here include tostones con camarones, the chicharron con arepa, and the chicken empanadas.
