Big news is brewing in Tampa’s grocery scene—H Mart, the largest Asian supermarket chain in the U.S., appears to be making moves toward opening a new store at 3908 W. Hillsborough Avenue.
The news first surfaced in the Tampa Bay Asian Foodies Facebook group and has since been supported by official filings on the City of Tampa’s permit search page. According to public records, H Mart has submitted plans for demolition of plumbing, electrical systems, rooftop units (RTUs), and existing partition walls at the site—signaling major interior renovations in preparation for what could become the chain’s first Tampa location. H Mart opening soon in Orlando
This potential Tampa expansion follows H Mart’s ongoing growth across Florida, with another location in the works for Orlando that could open later this year.
Founded in 1982 in Woodside, Queens, H Mart has grown to more than 97 stores nationwide. The chain is celebrated for its extensive selection of Asian grocery staples and wide variety of Western products—all under one roof. Its food halls, featuring both authentic and modern Asian cuisine, are a major draw for shoppers and food lovers alike.
Ranked 13th on the National Retail Federation’s Hot 100 Retailers list and featured among Supermarket News’ Top 50 Small Chains and Independents, H Mart continues to cement its status as a top-tier destination for international grocery shopping.
Opening timeline, and official plans TBA
If confirmed, the Tampa location would bring another major player into the region’s growing international grocery market. Local shoppers recently welcomed Lotte Market, another prominent Asian grocery chain, at 17605 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. in New Tampa.
