Don Julio’s brings 5-star birria tacos and margaritas to New Tampa

Don Julio’s is one of the best kept recreates in Tampa. The authentic Mexican restaurant makes the best birria tacos in town, and the molcajete is a scintillating culinary delight. Don Julio’s Authentic Mexican Cuisine now operates two locations in the city of Tampa. You can find one at 2808 E Bearss Avenue, and the latest addition to the family at 16023 Tampa Palms Boulevard West. The second location needed to be added due to the great support from the community and to manage the overflow and success of the first restaurant.   The Tampa Palms location has extensive space, full bar and can sit large parties of 20+ if needed. 

The restaurants new location celebrated its official opening in May of 2022, while the original location has operated in Tampa for more than 4 years. The family came to the Tampa Bay region back in the 70s, and it was their dream to operate a restaurant here in the city. The two locations you see today are glowing examples of a dream fulfilled — though the team is always ready to dream even bigger.

Outside of the exceptional Molcajete and Quesabirria, other authentic specialties you can enjoy include:  Fajitas, Carne Asada, Carnitas, Enchiladas, Chiles Rellenos,  Chile Con Carne, Pescado Frito and their Molcajete. Of course, you should pair any of these dishes with their homemade Margaritas, Pina Coladas, Mojitos or Sangria. As you can see Don Julio’s not only has authentic Mexican cravings, but also has an extensive menu of their home-made specialties.

Garnering a pristine reputation like Don Julio’s has doesn’t come easy. But the family-owned operation takes particular pride in making things by hand, and that includes the divine tortillas that encapsulate roast pork, carne asada, pastor, seasoned chicken, and savory ground beef. Massive burritos submerged in gooey, melty cheese would humble even the most voracious of appetites. It’s a casual space offering gourmet eats at prices that won’t break the bank. The love and personal touch Don Julio’s provides to each dish is why it has won Lo Major De Tampa Bay’s Award for Best Mexican Restaurant, and Best Taco in Tampa in both 2020 and 2021.
