We love Phoebe. The 21-foot vibrant flamingo sculpture in the center of Tampa International Airport has become the ultimate photo op for travelers. Now, the big sculpture just received a major design award. The sculpture was named a winner by the prestigious CODAWorx Awards. A distinguished panel of 18 jurors, comprised of some of the most influential names in the art and design industry, reviewed and scored nearly 100 entries, naming “HOME” the winner in the Transportation category. The public was also given the opportunity to weigh in, and Phoebe picked up one of two “People’s Choice Awards” with more than 3,000 votes!
Matthew Mazzotta was the lead artist on the project. Collaborators on the project, titled HOME, include Sujin Lim, Stephanie Yeung, Daniel Shieh, Yalun Li.

HOME is a site-specific art installation that gives travelers time and space to take a deeper look at a bird whose image appears across Florida—the flamingo. This floor-to-ceiling immersive installation gives viewers the impression they are underwater with the flamingo as it looks for food. The exaggerated scale of this pink bird transports us into its world and reminds us that we all share the same home.
Designed as a spectacle to restore the interaction missing from this area of the airport, HOME draws people into this immersive experience, where they will find themselves bathed in changing lights, posing with giant birds, sharing photos, and enjoying being together in this whimsical and otherworldly atmosphere.
