Bryan Hodgson is taking the helm as the new head coach of USF men’s basketball, bringing a track record of success and a relentless drive to win. USF Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly announced Hodgson as a “championship‑caliber” leader who excels in recruiting and player development.

Hodgson, 37, arrives in Tampa after two strong seasons at Arkansas State, where he led the Red Wolves to back‑to‑back 20‑win seasons. His 2024‑25 squad finished 25‑11, securing a Sun Belt Conference title and a National Invitation Tournament appearance. Under his leadership, Arkansas State set program records for scoring and field goals made while ranking among the top teams in the conference in both offense and defense.

A new chapter begins for the USF Bulls

“I am incredibly honored and excited to be the head coach at the University of South Florida,” Hodgson said in a press release. “We are Tampa Bay’s Home for Hoops, and I can’t wait to work with our student‑athletes, staff, and passionate Bulls fans. We will play with energy, toughness, and a relentless drive to compete at the highest level.”

Before Arkansas State, Hodgson was a key assistant at Alabama from 2019 to 2023, helping the Crimson Tide secure top‑15 recruiting classes and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. During his time there, Alabama won both the SEC regular‑season and tournament championships, and six of his players went on to the NBA, including 2023 No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller.

A history of mentoring youth, and fostering community

Hodgson also played a pivotal role in Buffalo’s rise as a mid‑major powerhouse from 2015 to 2019, contributing to three NCAA Tournament runs. His recruiting expertise has earned him national recognition, including a spot on The Athletic’s list of top 25 up‑and‑coming coaches.

Off the court, Hodgson is deeply involved in mentoring youth, having founded Coaching Love Inc., which supports at‑risk children, particularly those in foster care. Now, he’s set to bring that same passion and leadership to USF basketball.
