We are ready for a fall and winter getaway. Tampa International Airport, the best large airport in North America according to JD Power, just celebrated the launch of three new nonstop flights:
- Alaska Airlines: Daily flights to San Diego
- Spirit Airlines: New flights to Charlotte
- Breeze Airways: New flights to Pittsburgh
Hit up the West Coast with Alaska Airlines
The anticipated new daily route to San Diego has received a lot of fanfare. The 2,087-mile flight is clocked at just under 5 hours eastbound and 5hr10min westbound. Alaska Airlines will use a Boeing 737-900 for the route, according to a release. Those interested can book flights now on Alaska Air’s website.

Alaska Airlines is also going green. The airline announced the completion of its transition to paper cups for inflight beverages, a move that eliminates more than 55 million plastic cups annually and replaces them with a more planet-friendly alternative. The change to paper cups makes Alaska Airlines the first U.S. airline to eliminate plastic cups. Combined with their Boxed Water™ partnership, these changes eliminate 2.2 million pounds of plastic waste from landfills every year, the equivalent weight of 24 Boeing 737s.
Spirit and Breeze expand service at TPA
Spirit has also continued its expansion at the airport. On October 5, the ultra-low-cost carrier began daily nonstop service to Charlotte, and it will serve Norfolk, Richmond, and Charleston, S.C., four times per week as seasonal routes starting November 15. It will be the first time Spirit has flown nonstop between TPA and those four cities.
You can visit the ‘Burg over the Howard Frankland Bridge, and now you can sojourn to the other Burgh in PA aboard Breeze.
We’re grateful to Breeze for investing even more at TPA with flights to Pittsburgh, Columbus and our first-ever nonstop service to Charleston, West Virginia,” said TPA Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications Christopher Minner. “Breeze is a popular airline in Tampa Bay, flying more than half a million guests who’ve been delighted by their seriously nice experiences.”
