Tampa International Airport (TPA) continues to be the city’s MVP, regularly earning praise from major outlets like USA Today and JD Power. While the airport’s international nonstop flights and Airside D are often the buzziest developments, one future addition stands out: the Red Express Curbsides. These new lanes are transforming the drop-off and pick-up experience, and we’re here for it.
The express curbsides make navigating the airport a breeze for travelers without checked luggage. This benefit extends to both passengers and those picking them up. The airport opened the Blue Express Curbsides back in 2021, and the Red Express counterpart will debut in mid-2025. Once fully operational, they’ll further streamline the process, reducing congestion and improving the overall traffic flow.

Having traveled frequently since September, I can vouch for how these express lanes reduce stress. Arriving two hours early is also a great stress reliever (I want a gold star from Phoebe, the Flamingo, OK).
TPA continues to make upgrades for travel efficiency
TPA explains that the new curbsides function similarly to the award-winning Blue Express Curbsides. Outbound passengers can skip the ticketing level and head straight to their gate. The express lanes let inbound travelers bypass the Bag Claim Level and head directly outside to meet their ride.
This expansion promises to improve the airport experience even more. Passengers will enjoy smoother, faster travel with fewer crowds and less walking from curb to gate. TPA continues to innovate, and if these express lanes are any indication, Tampa International’s future is looking bright.
