Pete’s General is one of the most bustling sunrise destinations in St. Petersburg. Their bagels are made fresh daily and the level of devotion amongst their regulars is unparalleled. Pete’s General in St. Pete also includes a store featuring clothing, hats, cards, bags of coffee beans and more locally made goods. Now, they’re spreading their wings with an all new concept in Ybor City: just Pete’s. Described as an all day cafe and community gathering space, this new concept is situated next door to Friends of Ybor City’s new 4,000-square-foot dog park. It’s just entered its soft opening stages. The owners took to Instagram to share the news with eager followers.
For those who love Pete’s Bagels, prepare for something new. “It will be very different,” said Steve Peterman, owner of Pete’s General, in an interview with That’s So Tampa. “It will be an all-day cafe where you can sit and enjoy a sandwich, a coffee, and a view.”

The Pete’s team worked steadily through the end of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023 to transform the intimate 850-square-foot space into Ybor City’s next great community gathering space.
“Once we’re fully open, we plan to do at least 5 community events per month,” said Peterman. These events will include live music on their large outdoor patio, and film screenings under the stars. While Ybor City offers a lot of boisterous nightlife options, Peterman and the Pete’s crew hope their space will offer a quieter alternative off of E 7th Avenue.
Pete’s will be a cafe and a community gathering space
Tentative hours for Pete’s will be 8am-8pm Wednesday through Sunday, with hours at around 8am-3pm Monday and Tuesday. Those hours are of course subject to change.
An official sandwich menu is still TBD. The kitchen and staff are still working and experimenting with recipes ahead of an official grand opening. Local beers will feature on the menu, and meticulously selected wines will be available for ardent connoisseurs.
“We’ll have some of our familiar pastries from Pete’s Bagels,” said Peterman. “We’ll also bring over our original bagel, our egg and cheese sandwiches, and simple smears.”
The new Pete’s has a very “homey” feeling, according to Peterman, and is fast-casual than Pete’s General in St. Pete. Follow Pete’s on Instagram for updates on the new Ybor location.
