Artisanal chocolate arrives in downtown Tampa

The new Tampa Downtown Peterbrooke shop is owned and operated by Tampa Bay residents Ryan and Jennifer Hill. In addition to owning the newest Peterbrooke in Florida, Ryan currently serves as a senior manager at Johnson & Johnson. Jennifer, a retired schoolteacher, will manage the business’s day-to-day operations along with the couple’s two daughters, Drew and Sydney, according to a release.

“As a former Jacksonville resident and a teacher for nearly a decade, it was my favorite treat to receive Peterbrooke chocolates from my students.” said Jennifer. “As a mom, I loved visiting Peterbrooke shops to participate in chocolatier camps with my children or to buy gifts. I moved to Tampa Bay in 2013 and missed that quintessential Peterbrooke chocolate experience. When I learned that Peterbrooke wanted to develop in Tampa, I jumped at the chance to become an entrepreneurial small business owner and build our next step in life around the best chocolate I have ever eaten with my daughters by my side.”

Giving back to the Tampa community

The Hill family has done their part to give back to the community when they can. The Hills have donated the brand’s signature delectable, chocolate covered popcorn to multiple groups including nurses at Tampa General Hospital, to East Lake Middle School teachers for Teacher Appreciation Day and to the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

“We are chocolate-loving locals that appreciate our community and plan to give back through our new Downtown Tampa Peterbrooke shop. Because Tampa is a community that thrives when we work together, we know we must do our part to lend a helping hand,” Jennifer said.

The Hill family plans a grand opening celebration in the fall to include a ribbon cutting, prizes and taste testing, among other festivities. We’re getting Willy Wonka vibes here and we love it.

Marshmallows made in house

Peterbrooke’s traditional favorites such as decadent truffles, hand-made caramels and cherry cordials are total crowd pleasers. Peterbrooke specialities such as chocolate covered cookies, pretzels, scratch-made marshmallows, potato chips and strawberries are hand-dipped daily with Peterbrooke’s own proprietary blend of milk, dark and white chocolate.

Many of Peterbrooke’s chocolates are certified OU Kosher including the gelato. Supporting the neighborhood feel, each Peterbrooke shop offers its own unique take on team-building classes, summer day camps for children, private parties, catering and corporate gifts.

A UTZ certified shop

All Peterbrooke Chocolatier shops, including the Downtown Tampa location, are UTZ certified, which is part of the Rainforest Alliance. This partnership ensures the global sustainable farming of cacao while providing farmers with better opportunities for growth and profitability. The UTZ and Rainforest Alliance program allows Peterbrooke’s cacao farmers to learn more environmentally friendly growing methods that increase crop yields while improving working conditions and simultaneously safeguarding our planet. Peterbrooke was one of the earliest adopters of the UTZ certification in the United States and is a proud part of the sustainability program that involves all aspects of the chocolate supply chain.

The new Tampa Downtown Peterbrooke Chocolatier is located at 777 N. Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL 33602. The shop will be open Monday – Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  To contact the shop directly, call 813-585-1703 or visit the shop’s website, or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.
