Dang Dude, a new Asian street food and boba spot, opens at Sparkman Wharf

Dang Dude in Downtown Tampa is the latest restaurant concept from renowned chef Ferrell Alvarez and an incredible team of chefs and restaurateurs. Alvarez is the brains behind the oft acclaimed Rooster & the Till, Nebraska Mini Mart, and Gallito. His culinary innovations have caused a food renaissance in the city of Tampa, and brought new life to the now burgeoning Seminole Heights neighborhood. Dang Dude is the latest gem in the crown, and it’s ready to soft open.

“We’ll be cooking up food, training our staff and will have a limited number of menu items served daily,” the ownership team wrote in an announcement on Instagram. Dang Dude is described as a modern and creative, fast casual Asian street food restaurant. Guests can anticipate feasting on dumplings, spring rolls, double fried chicken wings, and rou-jia-mo. This blogger highly recommends the (gluten-free) double fried chicken wings with a Szechuan brown sugar dry rub.

The menu also includes Rou Jia Mo (crispy griddled and stuffed Chinese flatbread). The chili tofu crumble featuring cilantro mint, and a chili lime relish. Dang Dude, you have our undivided attention now. Another option, for the carnivorous kind, is the five spice lemon grass pork.

Dang Dude also offers up fried group, sensational pork dumplings (the most popular pick from the restaurant preview), and chilled sesame noodles. If you’re vegetarian or gluten-free, or both, there are plenty of options on the menu for you.

One item we haven’t tried, that we’re dying to sample, is the ube coconut milk tea with brown sugar syrup and boba. Mango fruit tea, and Thai milk tea are also available.

Those who have experienced Alvarez’s food before know this city is in for something truly exquisite. The chef and restaurateur was recognized as a 2017 James Beard Foundation semi-finalist for Best Chef — South. His restaurant Rooster and The Till was named the best restaurant in Tampa Bay by the Tampa Bay Times in 2018 and again in 2019. His tasty Gallito concept operates out of Sparkman Wharf in Downtown Tampa, and the massive Joinery Food Hall.
