The Community Foundation Tampa Bay has pledged $1.2 million to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene. As part of this commitment, a portion will match grants from fundholders, encouraging additional donations to boost support for impacted communities. The Lightning Community Foundation also pledged $2 million, and The Glazer Family pledged $1 million.

The grants will fund nonprofits providing immediate relief, such as food and shelter, while also supporting long-term recovery efforts like housing and job placement. The Foundation’s goal is to ensure that nonprofits have the resources they need to help families rebuild their lives.

Request support through the Critical Needs list

“We are deeply saddened by the catastrophic losses so many of our neighbors have suffered from Hurricane Helene,” said Marlene Spalten, President and CEO of the Community Foundation Tampa Bay. “As the community’s foundation, we play a critical role in recovery by connecting philanthropists with nonprofits who are on the front lines, helping families return to their homes and jobs.”

Nonprofits affected by Hurricane Helene can request support through the Community Foundation’s Critical Needs List. This ongoing list highlights organizations facing unexpected and urgent challenges, such as increased demand for services, building repairs, and operational disruptions caused by the storm.

Donation matching to encourage more support

To aid these nonprofits, donors can view the Critical Needs List and contribute to hurricane-related projects. The Foundation will match a portion of donations made through funds held at the Community Foundation.

Additionally, the Community Foundation has activated the Tampa Bay Rapid Response Fund, providing a reliable way to make tax-deductible donations to address emergencies. The funds will be distributed to local organizations responding to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, ensuring immediate support reaches those in need.
