A big new ALDI is set to open in South Tampa at the site formerly home to Barnes & Noble. Don’t worry, the book shop found a new space not too far away for local book lovers. Wild 94.1 first reported on the rumor back in January 2023, and it seems Tampa Bay Business Journal has confirmed the plans.
Aldi would take over a near 22,000-square-foot space in a prime location in the city at 213 N Dale Mabry Hwy. An official opening timeline is still TBA.

ALDI continues to grow in Tampa
The ALDI business model is intentionally different, and the result is a fast and affordable shopping experience. ALDI fans across the country rave about the company’s award-winning exclusive brands and weekly lineup of limited-time ALDI Finds — this includes their award-winning whiskey. Local shoppers can experience the ALDI difference.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Matt Thon, Haines City regional vice president for ALDI during the brand’s Lakeland opening in March. “We have served this community for 15 years and are excited to continue to offer Lakeland residents an affordable way of shopping.”
Grocer expands with new stores in Lakeland and St. Pete
ALDI sells mostly exclusive brands made by the best partners. Tampa Bay shoppers will find food for every taste and lifestyle (gluten-free, plant-based, dairy alternatives, etc.) along with an unbeatable cheese and wine selection.
The grocer currently operates more than 200 stores in Florida, with 5 operating now in Tampa, and two in neighboring St. Pete.
