TPA announces first-ever nonstop routes to Portland (PDX)

Tampa International Airport has announced new nonstop service to Portland (PDX) on Alaska Airlines. TPA made the announcement on its website on June 10.

The new nonstop service will begin December 16, according to a release from Alaska Airlines.

A major win for Portland and Tampa

“This huge win for Tampa International Airport now gives us an important connection to the West Coast and one that we’ve been pursuing for years,” said Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano. “Tampa Bay residents have been clamoring for this service, and we’re beyond thrilled Alaska Airlines is growing its presence here with this exciting new route.”

The seasonal service is expected to operate four days a week between Dec. 16 and April 18 aboard a Boeing 737. Flights will leave Portland at 12:10 p.m., arriving in Tampa at 8:29 p.m. Departing flights will leave TPA the following day at 8 a.m., arriving in Portland at 11 a.m.

What do you need to do when in Portland?

Book lovers should treat themselves to a visit to Powell’s Books. The massive store takes up an entire city block.

You can explore the 5,000-acre Forest Park, or explore the International Rose Garden.

Get lost in the natural beauty of Portland

Nature lovers can explore the Hoyt Arboretum. Founded in 1928, the 189-acre arboretum features 172 different tree families and 6,000 individual trees. The species represented originate from countries all over the world including Chile, Afghanistan, Germany, India and Algeria.

There are plenty of museums, farmers markets, and waterfront parks to experience while in the Northwest.

Alaska Airlines also operates flights between Seattle and Tampa out of TPA. The airport also relaunched its nonstop service to San Francisco, and its routes to Panama City on COPA Airlines.
