Carrollwood’s first microbrewery, Wulfaven, announces grand opening

Cheers, Carrollwood, a brand new microbrewery is set to open in your neck of the woods this October. The owners just announced the brewery will open October 15 and 16. Wulfaven, a family-owned brewery, announced plans to debut a brewery in the area back in February 2022.

The idea for Wulfaven Brewing Co. started back in 2017. Joseph Lazzara and his father, Santo Lazzara, concocted the dream of one day owning their own brewery after being in the industry for a combined 30+ years. Just two short years later, the pair were setting roots, securing a location, and readying to make this brewing dream a reality.

Pandemic-related delays aside, the Lazzara’s never stopped working toward bringing Wulfaven to life. Construction is well underway on the property, and they are on track to open this summer.

Wulfaven’s tap list will be a combination of “all things crisp and clean,” according to the Lazzara’s. Additionally, the brewery will have a selection of “juicy and bitter” IPAs and pale ales.

“All in all, we plan on bringing you crushable beers that pair well with date nights and friendly hangouts,” write the Lazzara’s. “Everything that we’ve ever wanted and loved in a brewery, we will hopefully bring to you at Wulfaven Brewing.”

Curious about the name of the brewery? Me too. ‘Wulfaven” is a combination of two words: Wolf and Haven. The wolf holds a special symbolic meaning for the owners. “Wolves also depend on their pack and so do we,” write the Lazzaras. “Our family, friends, and the community are our inner circle. Without them, we wouldn’t have made it this far.”

The second word, haven, represents a safe place. Their mission at Wulfaven Brewing Co. is to create quality craft beer with fresh ingredients and create an inclusive space the community to gather. An opening date is still TBA but you can follow their progress on Instagram.
