Whiskey Cake just made International Plaza even better

ResortPass

Dear Whiskey Cake, you had us at whiskey

Yes, true to their titular hijinx, Whiskey Cake Bar and Kitchen, the new craft cocktail bar and restaurant at the International Plaza, is undeniably putting whiskey in cake. In fact, they are putting high-class hooch in snifters, shot glasses and elixirs of the magical health potion variety (cue the Zelda sound effects).

A little something for everyone

Seriously though, Whiskey Cake is a Texas transplant built around the simple concept that men love whiskey and women love cake. It is a beautiful marriage, actually. On the whiskey front, they got everybody covered. Inside their location along Bay Street is an Alexandrian Library of over 500 bourbons, whiskeys, and ryes.

The menu offers whiskey flights for rye, bourbon, scotch and Irish along with a build your own. The bourbon flight is a quality deal for $16 that includes Old Forester, Elijah Craig Small Batch, 1792 Small Batch and Woodford Reserve.

Farm to fork proteins on the menu

Mesquite wood is an important ingredient for the rest of the menu. Whiskey Cake is serving “farm to fork” proteins ranging from a half chicken, duck breast and even a whiskey splashed short rib among other meat goodness.

The ambiance is homey with smart details like hand-painted planters, rustic wood accents, wire-caged lamps and lightbulbs holding pine needles (don’t miss the sneaky “E-I-E-I-O” above the entrance). However, the actual whiskey cake sitting in a lake of bourbon anglaise is going to make you not care where you are sitting.

Another International Plaza Stunner

Also, while dining, management confirmed that very soon they will be open for brunch on the weekends. A sneak peak at the menu got our taste buds whirring with promises of mesquite flour waffles, housemade sausage and Duroc Pit ham.

All told, Whiskey Cake is another hit in the making for the International Plaza, which has already transformed into a go-to dining spot for folks all around Tampa, no matter the age or palate.

Visit Whiskey Cake Bar and Kitchen on Bay Street, 2223 N. Westshore Blvd. from 5pm to 11pm at the moment, but soon the restaurant will expand to include lunch hours making their regular hours 11am to 11pm, Monday through Friday, and 9am to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Follow the restaurant on Facebook for updates on specials.
