Hot off the heels of a record spring break, Tampa International Airport (TPA) is set to welcome nearly 3.4 million passengers during the bustling summer travel season between Memorial Day and mid-August, just as students head back to school. This marks a projected 4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. With its recent accolade of being named the best large airport in America by JD Power, TPA is ready to handle the surge in travelers.
Over the summer, TPA will see an average of 238 daily departures, translating to a whopping 476 total daily flights, accommodating around 71,000 passengers each day. The weekends surrounding Memorial Day are expected to be among the busiest, with approximately 78,000 passengers passing through the airport daily. Other peak travel days to watch include June 2, July 6, July 20, and August 3.

TPA adds new efficiencies to make traveling easier
To ensure a smooth travel experience during these peak times, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures. This allows ample time for parking, check-in, clearing security, and picking up any last-minute snacks or items before boarding.
TPA offers online booking for parking, guaranteeing a space will be available when you arrive at the Airport.
The innovative Blue Express Curbsides are an easy alternative to the regular Departures and Arrivals lanes, particularly for those who don’t need to stop at the Ticketing or Baggage Claim levels to get in and out of the Main Terminal. Drivers can follow the signage to Express for a less crowded drop-off and pick-up experience. Red Express Curbsides are currently under construction and are scheduled to be completed by next summer.
