4th Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival (All Weekend)

Join Tampa in celebrating the flavors and influences of Cuba with the 4th Annual Cuban Sandwich Festival! This year those in attendance along with sponsors will attempt to make the longest Cuban sandwich ever! The 3-day event will also feature the 4th annual City2City Showdown. Over 30 restaurants from all over Florida and parts of the US are set to compete in this highly anticipated contest. The Festival runs from Friday, March 20th, to Sunday, March 22nd. Follow this link for ticket information for Friday's VIP event ($25). All other Festival events are FREE and open to the public. Events take place at Capdevila at La Teresita, 3246 West Columbus Drive on Friday; HCC – Ybor Campus, 2112 North 15th on Saturday; Centennial Park – Ybor City, 1800 East 8th Street on Sunday.

 

Motown The Musical at Straz Center (All Weekend)

Motown The Musical is “More than a Broadway show. A celebration of music that transformed America!”– CBS Sunday Morning. It began as one man's story … became everyone’s music … and is now Broadway’s musical. Motown The Musical is the true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. Showtimes at 8pm on Friday, 2pm and 8pm on Saturday, and 2pm and 7:30pm on Sunday. Tickets from $95-$143.50.

Tampa Bay Breakthrough for Brain Tumor 5k Run and Walk

BT5K Tampa Bay is part of the American Brain Tumor Association’s (ABTA) signature Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K series. Currently, more than 700,000 people in the U.S. are living with a brain tumor diagnosis. Your support allows the ABTA to fund desperately needed brain tumor research, patient programs and support services. Event begins at 8:30am. ISA Tree Climbing Competition (Saturday and Sunday)

Professional tree climbing competitions are held around the world to provide a platform for arborists to learn about the latest in climbing techniques and innovations in equipment. They showcase the highest level of professional skills and safety, providing a competitive learning environment for those working in the industry. The competitions simulate working conditions of arborists in the field. Male and female competitors perform five different events during preliminary rounds. Each event tests a competitor's ability to professionally, and safely maneuver in a tree while performing work-related tree-care tasks in a timely manner. Competitive tree climbing also introduces the public to the skills professional tree climbing arborists must use for safe, professional tree work. Event goes from 8am-6pm on Saturday, and 8am-11pm on Sunday. FREE and open to the public. Rowlett Park, 2401 East Yukon Street.

 

Baconalia: Celebration of Bacon

This inaugural festival at the Ybor City Saturday Market will have extensive bacon samplings, bacon artwork, bacon competitions, bacon awards, live entertainment and shopping. Event runs from 11am-4pm. FREE and open to the public. Centennial Park, 1800 East 8th Avenue.

 

Gasparilla Criterium and Cycling Festival (Saturday and Sunday)

Saturday March 21st & 22nd, 2015 in Tampa's Downtown, enjoy a festival celebrating the adrenaline junkies and action sport fanatics among us. Witness the most exciting and fast paced cycling racing in the world, American Street Track Racing. VIP and general ticket information. Spring Beer Fling

This Saturday enjoy a throwback day of exceptional brews, cocktails, tunes and games at the Spring Beer Fling. Iconic rockers The Black Lips will headline the event with Jensen Serf Company, The Band In Heaven, The Riot Act, Funny Bunny and a few other special guests. The event begins at noon and runs until 10pm. Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 for regular and $25 the day of the event (if available). VIP passes run from $75-$125. Boston Bruins vs Tampa Bay Lightning

The Boston Bruins arrive in Tampa this Sunday to take on the surging Tampa Bay Lightning. Game begins at 5pm. Tickets from $45-$385. Amalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive.


Gasparilla SUP Invasion

The Gasparilla SUP Invasion is a paddle race open to paddlers of all ages and watercraft including: Stand Up Paddleboards, Kayaks, Outrigger Canoes and Surfskis. Race divisions include Elite, Recreational and Kids. Top athletes compete in this live emcee'd sporting event featuring food trucks, vendors, exhibits, music and beer garden. In the spirit of Gasparilla, this race includes a special call for participants to form “Krewes” to compete in the event as a team. This event includes a RAFFLE, too! Event goes from 8am-3pm. FREE to watch, $50 for the elite course, $40 for recreational course, $20 for kids course, $120 for krewe 5k race, $150 for the krewe 10k race. Follow this link to register. IGers Tampa Meet at Lowry Park's Zoomination

This Sunday, March 22nd, don't miss the IGers Tampa, Visit Tampa Bay and Share a Little Sunshine community meet at Lowry Park's Zoomination! Zoomination is a dazzling exhibition of colossal lanterns sprawling over 26 acres, it’s an unforgettable journey through the ancient Chinese art of lantern sculpture. Wander past giant glowing pandas, zebras and mythical creatures. Marvel at millions of LED lights and lanterns constructed in a variety of styles and materials that range from silk to dinnerware.
