There’s no shortage of coffee shops in the city of Tampa, and the quality is as high the volume in this city. While it’s hard for us to say that any one in particular is our favorite, Food & Wine has made a strong case for King State Coffee. Writer David Landsel listed the new coffee bar as the eighth best in America in his list of the The Best Coffee Shops in America.
Landsel has been traveling for two years visiting coffee shops across the country to assemble this behemoth of an undertaking. So, what made King State stand out?
Here’s what Landsel wrote:
“The thing about talented (and successful) musicians Nate Young and Tim McTague is that they could have done so many things with their lives, with their talents, but the brothers-in-law chose to stick with Tampa, and chose to start roasting coffee a few years back, with the dream of building the best all-day hangout their favorite city had ever seen.”
We’d have to agree. King State is a love letter to the city of Tampa, bursting with great coffee, beer, and even graphic design. Seriously, we love their merch. You really can’t beat a morning there. It’s the perfect spot to get some work done during the week (with a bowl of seasonal fruit and fresh mint), or a spot to unwind with friends when the day is done.
If you haven’t tried anything off of the King State food menu, you’re doing it wrong. We dream about the house-made granola, and still need to sink our teeth into the BBQ pulled pork sammie.
King State Coffee is located at 520 E Floribraska Avenue.

Ybor Beverage Co. also just made its debut, and we think it could find its way on Food & Wine’s list soon.
