Tampa is not exactly known for its diners. So, when you find one that takes you to “flavortown” – sorry, we couldn’t resist – you stand by it and remain loyal to its bounty like a great, apron-ed mother. For us, Seminole Heights’s Three Coins Diner is this place because it’s where you can get real food from real folks 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

Real people food
This landmark has been slinging balanced meals since 1984, which is the same amount of service time as the Tampa-Hillsborough public library system, so show some respect.
Smack dab off Nebraska Ave., Three Coins Diner is not going to serve you a frou-frou plate of snobbery – no, instead, you are going to get a taco salad served salsa-side up in a crunchy tortilla bowl or an ice cold lettuce platter of egg salad. Diner food is egalitarian as it gets. Plus, while we were dining, we heard “I Love Rock and Roll” and “Caribbean Queen” back-to-back – score!

Diner classics and fresh pies
We highly suggest unique Three Coins items like the Stromboli Omelet. But don’t breeze passed the East Coast diner classics here like the Happy Waitress Open-face sandwich, corn beef hash, fruit surprise, Cordon Bleu chicken, Monte Cristo, French Dip and, yes, in case your grandparents come to visit, liver and onions.
And, of course, don’t skip the fresh cakes and pies, you can scope them out in the display by the door to see what is fresh for the day. As Seminole Heights evolves and more and more modern restaurants pop up, it is good to know that Three Coins is holding down the fort.
Visit Three Coins Diner at 7410 Nebraska Avenue any time of day and you can call for take-out at 813-239-1256.
