Tampa Treasures: O’Brien’s Irish Pub

Tampa has a number of notable places to enjoy a beer and some shepherd’s pie. When you think of the top tier Guinness slingers around town, Four Green Fields, James Joyce Irish Pub & Eatery, and Maloney’s Local Irish Pub (The local Yelp frontrunner) come to mind. But among Tampa’s dozens of Irish pubs, O’Brien’s Irish Pub may take first place.

O’Brien’s has been a favorite of Tampa residents since it opened in the Carrollwood area over 28 years ago. Even after the pub moved operations to its current home at 15435 N Dale Mabry Hwy, local support stayed strong. O’Brien’s is everything a neighborhood pub should be. During the day, you’ll find a comfortable restaurant featuring Irish favorites like Bangers and Mash with Guinness gravy, Shepherd’s Pie, and Traditional Irish Fish ‘n’ Chips. On a Friday or Saturday night, you can expect fantastic live bands, plenty of drinks, and a bar full of great people. The pub has cultivated a tight-knit community over nearly three decades. If you visit O’Brien’s more than once, you’re bound to see some familiar faces.

Plus, if you’re looking for a place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, O’Brien’s festivities are second to none. The party spans across the inside of the bar, out onto the patio, and into a massive tent set up outside for the event. There will be bands inside, bands outside, Irish dancers, and of course, enough drinks to celebrate in style. More info here.
